What We Do
In 2016, I began making jewelry with more metals, woods, and wire. This is why the title of the business is Obsessions jwwm (jewelry wood, wire, and metal). I noticed a lot of jewelry looked similar, the only difference was the color and texture of the beads. I wanted to provide something a little different. I like to provide unique and/or appealing pieces by finding beads from various areas/regions and creating interesting designs with metals. Our jewelry is handmade/handcrafted and many pieces are one of a kind.
We began selling our products at Lemoyne Art Galleries Gift Shop, Brickyard Farmer’s Marketplace and the French Town Heritage Hub. We are a locally owned business and are honored to provide products and future services to all communities. On October 21, 2017, we obtained a shop in Railroad Square at the House of Plywood Breezeway Market.
As you may have noticed, our products have evolved from jewelry to t-shirts, mugs, and customized items. Our business is changing to meet the needs of our mission, which is employment and entrepreneurship skills for youth, especially those with special abilities. From 2017-2018 we have had youth volunteers and entrepreneurs in our shop. In 2019, we plan to develop and expand our program to reach out to more youth and develop relationship with potential sponsors.
Please feel free to contact us with your suggestions, needs, or feedback. If you would like to donate time, funding (see donation button), or encouragement, please contact us or fill out our feedback/contact form.
Our mission is to provide unique and quality products that cater to our customer’s needs.
Our vision is for our business to provide employment and entrepreneurship opportunities to youth, especially those who have “special abilities”, with an emphasis on Autism Spectrum Disorder and Communication Disorders.
Who Are We
About the Owners
A reason for starting the business was my need to provide my sisters with meaningful and non-commercial gifts. During Christmas 2014, I looked on the internet for jewelry ideas and saw some beautiful bracelets. I thought to myself, “I could make that” and I did. My sisters loved them and I decided to make jewelry for myself as a way of saving money. People saw my jewelry and liked it. Then I thought, “I can sell my jewelry to others”, and the rest is history.
Another reason for starting the jewelry business was my daughter. I am a single parent and my daughter has autism and anxiety. We look at challenges as learning experiences and tools that we can help others experiencing similar situations.
My goal for my daughter is for her to be a leader or business owner; however, it is her choice. Either way I want her to have options and be financially stable and direct her own future. She is involved in all aspects of the business and we spend more quality time together. She says she feels relaxed when she is making jewelry. I have noticed more positive changes in her communication and self esteem. In May 2017, she developed a line of jewelry that incorporates gemstones called Beautiful Rose.
I am a single parent that likes creating and experiencing life. My favorite saying is to “speak it into existence”. I feel it is important if there is something you want to see happen, then you first visual/believe it, speak it, and then put things into motion to see it happen.
Nijah’s name means Beautiful Rose and Success. The meaning of her name symbolizes her.
